In the middle of the Civil War sanitary fairs were held in major cities throughout the Union. These fairs consisted of craft bazaars, horticulture displays, special balls, famous speakers, and many other special activities and attractions all focused on raising money for the care and supplies for the Union troops. The U.S. Sanitary Commission and many women-led groups and churches took the lead in organizing these significant efforts.
Come participate in a fun filled, activity rich experience as the Ohio Village recreates the patriotic and jubilant atmosphere of a period Sanitary Fair.

A Tribute Dinner and Concert to Father Kemp’s Old Folks
Saturday, May 24, 2014
American House Hotel, Ohio Village
Even the folks of the 1860s missed the tunes of their ancestors and the good old days. This started a revival of early American music during the mid-19th century that led to Father Kemp's Old Folks concerts, a musical troupe that performed to sold out audiences throughout the United States. Dressed in colonial period clothing, the Ohio Village Singers recreate one of these unique and sometimes “tongue in cheek” humorous performances featuring the music of the first American composers and other selections from Father Kemp’s songbook. Your evening begins with a sumptuous dinner featuring some adapted period recipes followed by the concert. Included in the dinner cost is free admission to the daytime event, The Ohio Village Soldiers’ Aid Fair, held from 10 am -5 pm in the village. $60; $50/OHS member. Advanced registration required by May 19. For reservations call 800.686.1541 or 614.297.2663.
