Girl Scout Programs

Who knew that learning about history could be so much fun? We offer Girl Scout groups of all age’s fun ways to experience the past. All scouts receive a special Overnight at the Museum patch for attending!

All overnights include snacks on Friday and breakfast on Saturday morning. If you or one of your scouts has a food allergy please let us know in advance.

Below are the current Girl Scout programs offered at the Ohio History Center and the Ohio Village through June 2013. Reservations are due two weeks prior to the date of the program. Payment is due at time of reservation.  A 72-hour cancelation notification is required in order to receive a refund. Please be aware that if registration is low, the program may be canceled.  Brownie  Overnight

 

Program Title:                           Exploring the Past Brownie Overnight

Cost per scout:                        $25 per scout;  $25 per each accompanying adult

History comes alive in this hands-on overnight program geared for Brownie Girl Scouts. Join in activities that give you a glimpse into days long gone. Learn and play games that were popular with girls in the 19th and 20th centuries; hear stories from the past, do period crafts, and have lots of fun.

 

Junior & Cadette Overnight Programs

Do you think history is just dates and names? Is a museum a place where you have to be quiet? The answer to both those questions is NO! History is fun, history is exciting, history is YOU! Come join us at the Ohio Historical Center for an overnight experience that shows you are a part of history. Look at Ohio newspapers on the day you were born, leave a memory for girls of the future, and have fun with music and dance.

 

 

Program title:                Mayhem and Mystery in the Museum

Date:                            February 22 & 23, 2013

Cost per scout:             $25 per scout, $25 per adult

Join us for this special program at the museum when our chief curator unveils the necklace of the mysterious “Mummy Princess.” Recently discovered in an unopened box, the necklace is said to have mysterious powers! Each troop receives an identity for the evening and becomes a part of the story as you help solve the mystery. Afterwards learn what real museum curators and staff do in the museum.

 

Program Title:               Totally Tubular 1980s Overnight  (New for 2013)

Description:                  Join in this fantabulous overnight that is all about the 80s. Learn about this happen’en decade through dance, music, crafts and fashions. Each scout will make their own Shrinky Dink patch!

 

 

Program Title:               The Army at Home: Women and the Civil War

Date:                            April 19 & 20, 2013                            

Time:                            6:30 pm. Friday – 10 am Saturday       

Location:                      Ohio History Center & Ohio Village

Scout Level:                 Junior & Cadette Girl Scouts

Cost per scout              $25 per scout, $25 per adult

Three out of five Ohio men fought in the Civil War. What did the women do during this turbulent time? This new overnight program takes you to Ohio Village to discover what life was like for women and children during the Civil War. Meet women of time and hear their stories, learn about medicine and nursing, sample a “worm castle,” read actual letters from the Civil War, and learn what a child’s life was like during this time. All scouts receive a special 150th Anniversary of the Civil War patch for attending this program. This program takes place in the Ohio History Center and the Ohio Village. Scouts will sleep in the Ohio History Center.
