The General Harrison of Piqua Arrives

On Wednesday, August 22, 2001 the Piqua Historical Area's new canal boat, the General Harrison of Piqua, arrived by truck from Albany, New York. The new canal boat, built to replace the General Harrison, that had gone out of service in July, 2000, was constructed by Scarno Boat Building. The new boat is very similar to the boat it replaced with one exception: the portion of the hull in the water is constructed of aluminum for longer life. Many people, both from the Piqua community and the Ohio Historical Society, were on hand for what was a very memorable afternoon. The General Harrison of Piqua was lifted into the water with the help of Piqua Steel and Ticon Construction. As soon as the new boat was in the water of the Miami-Erie Canal, those visitors who wished were treated to the first ride on the General Harrison of Piqua.
