Piqua Historical AreaTo get a brief description of the site please look at Piqua Historical Area to see what awaits your group at the site.9845 N Hardin RdLocated 3 miles off of I-75, 45 minutes north of Dayton, this peaceful site allows you to step back to the year 1829 and learn about the life of the John Johnston family. Mr. Johnston was a federal Indian agent and farmer who helped to form early Ohio through his relationships with William Henry Harrison, Henry Clay and Tecumseh. His home and surrounding farm buildings offer a picturesque day in the country. Costumed tour guides take you through the home and demonstrate crafts such as candle-making, hearth cooking and wool spinning. A special treat at the site is a ride on the General Harrison canal boat, the only all wooden canal boat still operating on the Miami and Erie Canal. Pulled by mules, the Harrison glides quietly along the wooded towpath past turtles, wildflowers and a variety of birds. Costumed interpreters tell the story of the great canal during your journey down the waterway. Your group can purchase remembrances of their trip with a stop at the site's gift shop. Admission for the bus driver and escort is complimentary with groups of 20 or more. Site admission is very reasonable as are all Ohio Historical Society sites.
