birthplaces or memorials of three of the eight presidents that called Ohio

1 Grant Birthplace (OHS)

Grant was born in 1822 in picturesque Point Pleasant near the mouth of Big
Indian Creek at the Ohio River. This restored one-story, three-room
cottage, built in 1817, was next to the tannery where Grant's father
worked. This small cottage home is furnished with period items.
Grant Boyhood Home (OHS)
937-378-4222 Georgetown (contact Brown County) The house
was the home of Ulysses S. Grant, 18th president of the United States,
from 1823, when Grant was one year old, until 1839, when he left to attend
West Point Military Academy. The home was restored and furnished in the
period, with one room dedicated to Grant and Georgetown
memorabilia.
Grant Schoolhouse (OHS)
937-378-4222 Georgetown (contact Brown County) Grant
worked in his father's tannery and, from the time he was 6- 13 years old,
he attended classes in this little schoolhouse. The building, built in
1829, consisted of only one room at that time. Later, he attended an
academy in Maysville, Kentucky, and then John Rankin's academy at Ripley
for a year. His father then succeeded in getting him appointed to West
Point.

William Howard Taft
National Historic Site 513-684-3262 Cincinnati area The
house that Taft was born in has been restored to its original appearance.
A visit to the site includes a tour of the restored birthplace and four
period rooms that reflect the family life during Taft's boyhood. The home
also includes second floor exhibits highlighting the life and career of
the 27th president. The Taft Education Center has an orientation video and
exhibits on later generations of the Taft family. The signature exhibit of
the center is an animatronic figure of the President's son, Charlie Taft.

Harrison Tomb (OHS) 800-686-1535
North Bend (Cincinnati area) Harrison's tomb and monument on Mt.
Nebo contains the remains of William Henry Harrison, ninth president of
the United States, his wife and son. An obelisk of Bedford limestone, with
marble entranceway, rises 60 feet above the tomb. From the terrace
visitors have a spectacular panorama of the Ohio River valley.
Harrison, was born in Virginia in 1773 and spent most of his adult
life in Ohio and Indiana. He served as secretary to the territorial
governor, senator, representative, and president, but he is most famous as
a military hero. Harrison commanded the western army during the War of
1812. Harrison's grandson, Benjamin Harrison, who served as president from
1889-1893, was born nearby.
