Day
1 Fort Ancient State
Memorial (OHS) 800-283-8904 Lebanon area (Warren
County) This National Historic Landmark is North America's largest
prehistoric Indian hilltop enclosure, built by Hopewell Indians more than
2,000 years ago. Once used as a gathering place for social and ceremonial
purposes, today visitors can enjoy the natural scenery and discover 15,000
years of Native American heritage in the Ohio Valley. The museum features
over 9,000 square feet of exhibits focusing on three major periods in
American Indian history, including interactive exhibits and a prehistoric
garden. Take a self-guided tour of the museum and guided tours of the
prehistoric garden and grounds.
Lunch at The Golden Lamb

and enjoy lunch in a private room at Ohio's oldest Inn. The menu features
typical American fare, including pot roast, chicken pudding and Shaker
sugar pie.

Xenia
Blue Jacket Outdoor
Drama 937-376-4318 Xenia (Greene County) The production
recounts the stunning and inspiring struggle for freedom among Ohio's
Shawnee Indians, frontier settlers and African slaves. Staged on a
three-acre stage, this breath-taking spectacle features horses, cannons,
flaming arrows and torches, as well as a huge, multiracial cast of
professional actors. Blue Jacket is part of the national Local Legacies
Project, created by the Library of Congress for its bicentennial
celebration in 2000.
Overnight in
the Greene county area. Drive to Dayton the next
morning. Day 2 SunWatch Prehistoric Indian
Village 937-268-8199 Dayton (Montgomery County) Based on
alignments of the sun, the Fort Ancient culture developed a complex
schedule of charting time. Discover how this remarkable site was
reconstructed as you walk among the lodges. This replicated Indian Village
is a National Historical Landmark and stands as it did nearly 800 years
ago.
Lunch at Peerless Mill
Inn 937-866-5968 Dayton (Montgomery County) Enjoy a
scrumptious meal of typical American cuisine in a former lumber mill built
in 1828.

Piqua

Piqua Historical Area State Memorial (OHS)
800-752-2615 Piqua (Miami County) Visit the recently
renovated Woodland Indian Museum on site, tour the 1829 home of John
Johnston, federal Indian agent. Learn about Pickawillany, the historic
Indian village, on which the Ohio Historical Society is conducting an
archaeology dig.
