My dear friend.

I have received thy favour of yesterday. Sally Ann has compleated the work which she wished to remain to finish, and will go to Washington by the first suitable oppor- tunity. I have been at both the stage offices but no acquaintance of mine appears to be going tomorrow - in a day or two there will no doubt scme opportunity offer of placing the girls under suitable protection - I have endeavoured to see Col. Buchanna & Jno. Comegys but have not been able to meet with either of them - I will renew my efforts in the morning - If thee should have no objection to ride to Balto. we should be glad to see thee here, a little excursion now & then is conducive to good health.

I enclose thee to days paper, at contains highly important debates in Parliment on the subject of America. I again repeat to thee that if this Country quietly pre- serves it (pursues its) present attitude towards G. B. and does not relieve the ad- ministration there, by committing some act of Hostility which will rouse the British nation unite them with the Government against us that the ministry will be driven by the clamours of the people to do us j stice, at least so far as to enable us to avoid having recourse to a war: The internal Taxes which you are about to lay, will as certainly if levied, distroy the administration here, as that I write this letter.

Thee will perceive by the enclosed paper that some relief has been given the British manufactures, and that one or two reasons are assigned - But the great & really operating cause is not divulged - It is the connivance of the French Government to their reception in France under the licence system - and if any thing will enable G.B. to hold out against our non-importation law it will be this
