By last mail I had the pleasure to receive yours of the 7th Inst. with the in- closed land warrant for 833 acres granted to the representatives of Wm. Dark which I will locate agreebly to your instructins, so soon as I can be permited to return home but it is at present uncertain when that will be.

The senate has been seting all last week as a court of impeachment on the trial of Judge Thompson. we are informed by the parties that the testamony is nearly closed and that the managers will this day commence their arguments, and it is expected that the question will be decided some time this week -- I trust however, that this busines will not very much interfer with the harmony of the legislature, be the result what it may.

A Bill for laying off the state into six congressional districts is now before the house of representatives as the bill was reported the third district was composed of the counties of Ross, Fairfield, Washington, Athens, and Gallia. I think it not very favourable to the Interest of Ross, it is hard to say what shape it will assume before it passes, if it should pass at all. a bill has been reported to the senate fixing the ratio of representation throughout the state at 725 which will give about 60 repr and 30 Sen. The question on fixing the permanent seat of Goverment is pend- ing before the Senate -- the select committee reported in favour of Delaware it is not however certain that the report will be agreed to. The Town of Worthington and the bank opposite Franklinton are both spoaken of and either New Lancaster or Chillicothe for the temporary seat. but it is yet possible that all will remain as it now is. you have no doubt been informed ere this that we have repealed the second section of the "act for commissioning certain officers" and that we are promising in future to persue the strict language of the constitution and proceed in the good old way.

The 666 2/3 acre survey in the name of Coll, to which you alude, I recd from Colc Anderson's office before I left Chillicothe, when I return, I will transmit it to you.

I am happy to learn by your letter that the objections in the war office does not extend to all warrants lately granted and hope you will do me the favour to call on th secretary of war and know of him the cause of the detention of two surveys of mine which were lodged there last fall. one in the name of Abraham Bowman for 1300 acres and the other in the name of Robert Means for 1166 2/3 acres, and write to me on the subject respectfully I am D. sir yours
