Extract of a Letter from John Johnston Esqr. (late United States Agent for Indian Affairs at Fort Wayne-) dated Piqua-Miami County Jany. 23d 1812

“I do not apprehend any further Hostilities with the Indians unless we should have a British war: Should such an Event take place, the Enemy will openly make use of the Indians against us. I have no Idea that the natives generally will take part with them, but many of them (regardless of the Consequences) undoubtedly will. If War with the British is inevitable, the Government, cannot take their Measures with regard to the Indians too soon. It ought never to be forgotten – that fear alone keeps the Indians quiet. The Establishment of Rangers and spies, as contemplated by the Law of Congress, will have an excellent Effect, in watching the movements of the Indians on the Frontiers”
- “The No. of Indians of all ages within the state of Ohio - -

Wyandots 300 about 200 more in Michigan adjoining –
