ABM W. BETH TO WORTHINGTON Hond Sir I would ask the favour of your attention to an application which I am informed has been made to the Secretary, at War for the promotion of Doctor Abraham Edwards of Dayton to an office in the United States army. From the deportment and character of the Doctor and his experience and knowledge in military tactics his representation as a patriot and friend to the present administration and government of the U. States I would presume he merits the command of a Regiment and would therefore solicit your patronage in his appointment to at least a majority, a situation all this friends, here wish him to obtain. If he should be honoured with this appointment, I sincerely believe he will do credit in it to our state and himself permit me therefore to urge your friendship in his behalf I do it with more freedom as I am confident you are ever ready to encourage merit, thereby to reward it. I presume it is already known to you that the Doctor has served several years in the Medical Staff of our army -- since hi residence in this state he has performed the duty of Brigade inspector with much satis- faction and is now a member of our Legislature from Montgomery county, Your friendly attention to the subject matter of this letter will confer a particular favour to me and your unacquainted friend (the Doctor) I have the honour to be your Hum Svt Abm W. Beth Gen. Worthington [ed. Alexr. McBeth] 37 |
