To the Honorable the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled. The petition of the under Signed Humbly Sheweth that they labour under many and great disadvantages in that district of Country lying West of the Town of Urbana in the State of Ohio for want of a direct post route from the Eastward through said dis- trict of Country -..They beg leave further to represent that a post route has already been established so far westward as the said Town of Urbana and that it would be but a small additional expence to continue said route on Westward through the Town of Tro to the Town of Milton on the South west Branch of the Great Miami the distance of abo thirty five miles which would be of infinite service to the inhabitants of said dis- trict, and would in our opinion increase the revenue arising to the post office de- partment sufficient to defray any additional expence that might arise in consequence of the establishment of such Your petitioners think it unnecessary to go into a lengthy discussion on this subject beleiving that the utility not to say necessity of the establishment of such a route will appear obvious to every one on viewing the map of the State of Ohio and at the Same time having an eye to the richness of the Soil and the great and increasing population of Said district of country and more parti- cularly at this present Juncture which forms an important crisis in our affairs especially with the Savages, immediately, an our west whom it is expected when ever the spring season commences will again raise the Tomahoc and Sculping knife against our defenceless citizens Willit not then be of some iportance to the Government as well as to the inhabitants of this frontier to have a speedy and direct communication from this place to the Seat of our General & State Government many other reasons no less cogent might be offered but it is thought unnecessary to detail them Your pe- titioners therefore pray that your Honorable bodt may take the same into consideration and pass an act establishing a mail route agreeably to their wishes as above expresse and your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray &c.
