OSL SAMUEL McCORD TO MEIGS Fort Meigs October 4th. 1812 To His Excellency Return J Meigs Sir We Arrived at this place this Morning at 3 Oclock and on Examining the Camp I find a large Proportion of the Indians Mising and an Informed they have been hunting for Several Days I have Requested them to be called to Camp as soon as posible and after Stating to them the disagreeableness of Confining So many fine Warriers to the bounds of a Camp I told them that if it was their Wish I would conduct any number of them that would think pro- per to offer their Servises to Your Excellency that notwithstanding you had a Supply of Troops for the preasent Expedition it might be posible you would except of them and if not the trouble would be verry little. Many of them are much Pleased and they informed me the would call a councill and let me know this Evening the results of which I will Inform you I have sent five Men to Lewisstown who will Inform you of any Circumstance that may be necessary Yr Obt Se Saml McCord P.S.
