OSL ALEXANDER LANIER TO MEIGS Camp at Greenville Sepr. 8. 1812 Sir In addition to my Other letter I trouble with these few lines -- I am Ordered by Genl. Munger to build 4 block houses and to stockade them in -- it is the general opinion of the officers that a large camp will stockaded in with circular Redoubts at the Corners so as to command the angles would be equally as good to defend the Garrison as Block houses and would save an immence quantity of limited[?] parapets and imbrazures could be made in the stockading of the redoubts and a Sentry box built in each. We could then build in the Center of the garrison a block house which should answer as a Citadel and a Magazine and in three sides we can build barracks that will answer the men to live in this winter. I have delineated a small scetch of the place in which I would wish to build on the enclosed paper one of the corners can be the block house alreayd built if you do not send me orders to the contrary I shall build on that place Yours with respect Alex C Lanier |
