OSL JAMES WHITE TO MEIGS Picqua Augt 1st 1812 Sir I have been directed by the Honble the Secretary of War to be pre- pared to furnish what provisions would be necessary for the intended Council to be holden at this place - After receiving information and a requisition from Mr. John Johnson Indian Agent for the probable quantity that would be required I imediately proceeded to purchase the same day 200,000 Rations a great proportion is now on hand at this place Where I concive it is very unsafe on account of the unfavourable information as to the disposition of the Indians and the insufficiency of the Store House I have been able to procure -- I therefore as Contractor under the United States apply to you as Commissioner on the part of the United States for a sufficient Guard of Men for the safe keeping of the above provisions I am Sir very respectfully Your Obd.
