ARMSTRONG TO HARRISON War Department July 14th 1813 Sir. The Medicines in deposit at Pittsburgh are put in on Chests, some of which are very large. One of these or two at most would be quite sufficient for the intended service of the Hospital. The Quarter Master will have orders to forward them and a quantity of Hospital Stores. Dur- ing your last Campaign a double allowance of medicines, stores & Instru- ments was sent to your army by mistake. The names of Drs. McKeehan & McCulloch have been sent to the Senate fo appointments. The resignations of the subaltern of the 24th & other Regiments are totally without the pretended excuses. The obvious appointments will be so disposed of as to offend no one. To suppl y the places of these resignations -- it may be well to bring up all the Serjeants who will bear promotion - Orders have been sent to Captain Perry to communicate to you the naval movements and to concert with you the necessary cooperations. The want of seamen is astonishing -- Of the militia you are authorized to take what in your judgment will be necessary. Such of the Kentucky militia as are in service would be better than a new draft. There are of the Pensylvania militia one Regi- ment at Erie - armed equipped &c these are subject to your Command. I am Sir with high respect Your most obedt. Servant John Armstrong Major Genl. Harrison 100 |
