WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON AND THE WAR OF 1812 William Henry Harrison and the War of 1812 is the first of a series of document transcription volumes dealing with the War of 1812 in the Northwest. The second volume will be Return Jonathan Meigs and the War of 1812. Other projected volumes will cover the pertinent papers of Duncan McArthur, Thomas Worthington, William McAfee, plus a series of journals and diaries of the war. The purpose of these volumes is to provide basic materials on the War of 1812 in the Northwest for the use of students and scholars of the period. This particular volume, containg the official correspondence of William Henry Harrison with the War Office, is not to be considered as superceding Logan Esarey's edition of the Harrison Papers (Indianapolis, 1922). In many ways, these papers are duplicates found in the Esarey edition. However, there are included here some letters not in this published edition of Harrison papers. The manuscripts included here come from the Harrison Letterbooks of the Library of Congress (microfilm at the Ohio State Museum). Richard C. Knopf, 1 |
