erecting the Connecticut Reserve into a County by the name of Trumbull - and commissioned the following persons as Justices of the Peace and of the Court of Quarter Sessions for the said County, empowering them to hold that Court on the fourth Monday's of November, February, May, and August, Yearly and every year: The Governor having frequently made appointments and issued proclamations when he was distant from the Seat of Government two or three hundred miles, and when the Secretary could not attend him without neglecting the duties attached to his Office, he was often obliged to recur to the Governor's information for an account of his Executive conduct. If therefore any persons, who may at a future period peruse this journal, should discover any defect in the following statement of his Excellency's Official proceedings, which is an exact and correct statement of that which was renderd by the Governor himself, and which may be seen by having recourse to the paper of the Office, they are requested to impute it to the above mentiond cause, and not to any neglect on the part of the Secretary of the Territory. |
