Humiliation and Prayer to solicit at the Throne of Grace for Mercy and Protection. Thursday therefore the 14th. Day of August is hereby set apart for that Purpose -- that the several Congregations and Societies may with one Heart and one voice supplicate the So- vereign God of Heaven and Earth that he would graciously condescend to temper his Judgments in Clemency; - to impress as with unfeigned Contrition for our numberless Transgressions; - to suitably adopt our minds for his divine Benedictions by banishing all Vice and Immorality, and the Establishment of true Piety and Virtue; - to bless the President and general Government of the United States, en- dowing them with Wisdom and Unanimity in the prosecution of the best measures for the public Good; -- to bless the magistrates and people of this Territory, enabling then faithfully to discharge their Respective Trusts and Duties, and uniting them all in the Endeavour to promote the general Interest and Prosperity of the Country;-- to grant us the Fruits of the Seasons in due time; -- to smile upon all our useful and necessary Applications; -- to increase our Seminaries of Education, and the means of dif- fusing Piety and Instruction throughout the Territory; - to bless the Armies of the Uni- |
