of the Troops can afford me an Escorte to make a Visit to your Settlement and Gallipolis when the Season renders it practicable
I have the Honour
to be &ca.
Winthrop Sargent
Lt. Col Commandt
Sproat Washington County.

Cincinnati County of Hamilton Jany 3d. 1792.
I Learn Sir, and with much Regret, that notwithstanding my Recommendations to the Settlement of Gallipolis in the last Spring, and the late Defeat of our Army, which will most assuredly stimulate the Enemy to distress the unguarded Inhabitants of this Territory, that you are still in as defenceless a State as when I left you.

A very little Exertion and Expense would from the Construction and Disposition of your Buildings place Gallipolis in a more formi- dable Point of View to the Savages than any single Establishment in the Country and enable you to bid Defiance to the greatest Force that could be brought against you -

Without those Attentions Sir, you may fall an easy Prey to them whenever they choose
