During this period one board member, Keith
Corman resigned for personal reasons. With
this exception the Board membership remained
current (see Appendix A Board Roster). It
followed the plan of work agreed upon during
the June 2001 Strategic Planning Retreat and
met twice during this period. The Board elected
not to convene as scheduled on the 23rd of
August. The minutes of the Board's meeting
on June 14th and the draft minutes of the
October 9th meeting are attached as Appendixes
B and C.
During the June 14th Board meeting the Board
recommended the spending of the remainder of NHPRC
funds as outlined in the "Proposal for the
Use of NHPRC Funds to Implement the Ohio 2003
Plan" (attached as Appendix D) with one change.
This change is that a report be produced that
provides a method of creating bibliographic records
of the local government records of enduring historical
value held by the Ohio Network of American History
Research Centers, the County Archivists and Records
Managers Association institutions, and Ohio's
counties. Due to an administrative error the minutes
of the June 14th meeting do not document a vote
taken on this matter. This error was rectified
by a Board vote via email. The Board voted 13
to 1 to accept the "Proposal for the Use
of NHPRC Funds to Implement the Ohio 2003 Plan"
with the June 14th change.
The Board also discussed the Utley grant proposal
and plans for a Bicentennial Forum on Ohio's Historical
Records during the June meeting. The "Draft
Proposal for a Bicentennial Forum on Ohio's Historical
Records" is attached as Appendix E. The Board
created a Sub-committee comprised of Barbara Floyd
(chair), Charles Arp, Roland Baumann, Raimund
Goerler, Julie McMaster, and David Larson to plan
the forum. That Sub-committee met on August 8th
to begin preliminary planning of the Forum (Report
of the Sub-committee attached as Appendix F).
During the October 9th meeting the Board discussed
the Bicentennial Forum concept at length with
the title of the Forum, speakers, and dates being
issues of debate. There being no consensus on
the title of the Forum, the matter was tabled
to the OHARB list for further discussion. The
date for the Forum was set for September 26th,
2003.
The Board also received an update on the progress
of the Ohio Memory Project by Elizabeth Nelson
and a report of the Ohio Network of American History
Research Center's Sub-committee on Access (attached
as Appendix G).
Respectfully submitted,
George Parkinson
Deputy Coordinator
Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board
