This is a report on the first six months
of activities of the Ohio Historical Records
Advisory Board as supported by an administrative
support grant of $10,000. During this period
the Board met on 21 February 2003 at the Ohio
Historical Center at Columbus. It discussed,
and monitored the ongoing implementation of
The Ohio 2003 Plan: A Statement of Priorities
and Preferred Approaches for Historical Records
Programs in Ohio, which has been in effect
since March 1995. It also planned a bicentennial
conference, entitled The Future of Our Past:
Ohio's Historical Records at 200 Years, to
be held on 26 September 2003. This event will
provide critical input for the formulation
of a new records plan, The Ohio 2010 Plan.
Currently, there is one vacant position on
the Board and two expired terms. We are working
to fill these positions and expect results
soon. The two whose terms expired in March
2003 have asked to be reappointed and contribute
on an ongoing basis to the work of the Board.
On a variety of fronts, including electronic
records, Ohio Memory <http://www.ohiomemory.org/>,
local government records and improved access
to historical records, significant progress
has been made and will continue during the
grant period. Without the support and encouragement
of the National Historical Publications and
Records Commission this level of accomplishment
would be difficult if not impossible.
