Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board
Grant #2003-022 Interim Report
1 December 2003 31 May 2004
This is a report on six months of activities of the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board as funded by an administrative support grant of $10,000. During this period the board met on 15 January and on 12 March at the Ohio Historical Center at Columbus. The focus of these meetings was the drafting of the new strategic plan, The Ohio 2010 Plan. Based on the 2003 plan, adopted in 1995, this plan has some continuing goals but also reflects changes in the archival environment. The draft plan incorporates input from the records conference of September 2003. Additional advisement was also sought from the conference participants by asking for their review of the draft plan. In March, the plan was presented to the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees with the goal of harmonizing activities of the board with those of the Society. The Ohio Historical Society Records Advisory Board is continuing to refine the plan with a goal of completing it in Fall 2004.
On 29 May William K. Laidlaw, Executive Director of the Ohio Historical Society, was appointed as State Coordinate to replace Gary Ness. Charles Arp, Barbara Floyd, and James Oda were re-appointed for three-year terms and John Fleming, Kermit Pike and Carol Tomer for two years. Currently we have four vacant positions on the Board, which the board is working on filling.
During this period the board discussed and monitored the ongoing implementation of The Ohio 2003 Plan: A Statement of Priorities and Preferred Approaches for Historical Records Programs in Ohio. Status reports on the three reviewed grant submissions as well as continued advisement for two resubmissions were conducted.
Respectfully submitted,
William K. Laidlaw, Jr.
State Coordinator
