This meeting was held in conjuncture with the Ohio
Historical Society Board of Trustees meeting. Bill
Laidlaw, Executive Director, welcomed OHRAB and asked
George Parkinson, Acting State Coordinator, to introduce
his colleagues.
Grant Douglas, President, introduced Raimund Goerler
and Barbara Floyd as the spokespersons for OHRAB.
Goerler, who went first, thanked the trustees for
the opportunity to describe what the board did and
why it was important.
Goerler explained that the board was formulating
a strategic plan that would serve as a guide for historical
records related activities in Ohio through 2010. In
presenting a draft of the plan at this time, the objective
was to harmonize activities of the board with those
of the Society. He emphasized the importance of the
board as a facilitator for National Historical Publications
and Records Commission funds being made accessible
to the citizens of Ohio. He related recent instances
of board members advocacy on the Society's behalf
with state legislators for improved funding, and he
highlighted the success of the statewide records conference,
The Future of Our Past, held in September 2003.
Barbara Floyd then reviewed in detail The Draft
Ohio 2010 Strategic Plan. Based on the 2003 plan,
adopted in 1995, this plan has some continuous goals
but also reflects changes in the archival environment.
She described how the plan will be shared with conference
participants and asked for input from the trustees.
A lively discussion ensued between the board and trustees.
Afterwards, the board met separately in the Archives/Library
Conference Room to review events of the day and discuss
the next steps to be taken in promulgating the new
plan.
It was moved by Charles Arp and seconded by Roland
Baumann that the Ohio Historical Records Advisory
Board expresses its thanks, in the form of a resolution,
to the Ohio Historical Society's Board of Trustees
and request that this acknowledgement be suitably
conveyed to them. The motion was unanimously passed.
It was moved by Charles Arp and seconded by John
Fleming that the next meeting be held on 18 June in
Cincinnati. The motion was unanimously passed.
It was moved by Roland Baumann and seconded by John
Fleming to thank Raimund Goerler and Barbara Floyd
on their work on today's presentation. The motion
was unanimously passed.
It was moved by Charles Arp and seconded by John
Fleming that there being no further business to adjourn
the meeting. The motion was unanimously passed.
George Parkinson thanked everyone for their time
and attendance. Meeting was adjourned at 12:30.

William K. Laidlaw
