What’s in the Online Collection Catalog?
The Ohio Historical Society’s Online Collection Catalog has information on over 230,000 items from the Society’s library, newspaper, manuscript, audiovisual, state archives, history, natural history, and archaeology collections. This page will explain what collections are currently represented in the system. Please see the "What’s not is the Online Collection Catalog?" page for further information.
Archives:
- Many State Archives collections (or series)
are represented in the system.
Library:
- Most books in the general collection are
included in the system. This represents the
majority of the Library’s holdings, including
county histories, biographies, and family
histories.
- Most of the newspaper holdings are also
included in the system.
- Many of the manuscript collections held
by Archives/Library are represented in the
system
- Several hundred audiovisual collections
are available in the system.
Museum:
- Virtually all of the natural history items
are included in the system.
- A vast majority of the history objects are
also represented in the system.
- A sampling of the archaeology holdings is
currently available in the system.
What’s Not in the Online Collection Catalog?
Archives:
- Local Government records: A project
is currently underway to reorganize, catalog,
and inventory our current Local Government
record holdings. This information will become
available as these records are added to the
system.
Library:

Multiple copies: The system currently does not reflect a complete record of our holdings, especially in regards to those titles for which we hold multiple copies. This information will be added on an on-going basis.
- Serials holdings: Title information is available through the system, however, volume information will be added on an on-going basis.
- Manuscript Collections: Recent acquisitions are not in the system. A project to catalog these varied and important collections is currently in progress.
- Audiovisual Collections: The majority of these records are not yet in the system.
Museum:
- History Catalog Records: These records are curently in the process of being updated. Please be informed that the current information may include errors and/or misspellings, but factual information is correct.
- Archaeology Catalog Records: A project is currently in progress to automate the catalog of the Society's vast archaeological holdings.
- Natural History Catalog Records: Common names are being added to the natural history catalog records to make them more accessible to the public.
