School Groups

The Adena experience has been developed to ensure that student visits are fun as well as instructional. Students participate in hands-on activities and learn of pioneer food ways, traditions, and the cultural practices of the people who lived on the estate, including the formerly enslaved individuals who accompanied the Worthingtons to Ohio.

School Tours can be directed to any age level and any area of emphasis. A complete tour includes the Museum and Education Center, farm community, garden and mansion. The mansion tour is guided; each group will be given a mansion tour time upon arrival. The Museum and Education Center, farm community and garden tours are assisted. In order to experience the complete tour, a minimum of three hours on site is recommended.

Limited lunch facilities are available. Students may wish to shop in our Ohio History Store if time permits. Because our school tour schedule fills rapidly, early reservations are encouraged.

Location

Adena is located at the south end of Adena Road, off Pleasant Valley Road, which is the first road west off of State Route 104, just north of the US 35 interchange at the north edge of Chillicothe in Ross County.

Handicapped Accessibility

Ohio Historical Society strives to meet ADA requirements. However, historic structures and outdoor areas provide challenges that make it difficult to provide complete access to all visitors. Please call the site with specific questions and concerns.

The ground floor of the mansion house, upper floor of the barn, and all other public areas are handicapped accessible. Photos of the second floor of the mansion house are available for handicapped persons to view. Interpreters are available to talk to vision impaired visitors.
