“For many years, I hated studying history. Having to memorize scores of dates and facts about hundreds of years – it was unbearable. With National History Day, it was different. I got to focus on a topic of my choosing; by studying that topic so thoroughly, I found I could relate to it. History became a fascinating story, rather than a mile-long list of information. When I study history now, I’ll be able to better imagine myself in the time period and enjoy the experience more.” - Ohio History Day Student

We always need judges for both district and state events. We are looking for teachers and professors, historians, museum professionals, and anyone with a love of history and community! The judge sign-up form allows you to request a specific History Day category that aligns with your profession or experience. If you have no preference, no problem! We'll find a category that needs your help. Before the History Day contest you will receive your judging assignment with information on the category you will be judging and a contest rule book to read through prior to the event. The packet you receive will also contain information about what time you will need to arrive at the competition location for your judge orientation session and further instructions.
If you are interested in judging at the State competition, contact State Coordinator Molly Uline-Olmstead either by email or phone. Click here!

We can always use extra hands at the History Day competitions to help with registration, loading and unloading projects, t-shirt and souvenir sales, runners and hall/door monitors while judging is taking place, and more!
