Join us this summer as we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and the importance of Ohio during this era of American history.

The Ohio History Connection invites you to join us this summer as we close the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and the importance of Ohio and Ohioans during this era of American history.
This four-day tour includes visits to Pamplin Historical Park, Appomattox Courthouse, the Museum of the Confederacy and Chimborazo Medical Museum, as we follow the battles between Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee. We will be staying in the historic Omni Richmond Hotel in the Shockoe Slip District, an area filled with shops, historic architecture and Italianate style brick and iron-front buildings. As always, Travels Through Time tours are escorted by knowledgeable staff to make your journey entertaining and fun.

Day One

On our way to Virginia, a visit to the world-renowned Greenbrier resort, which includes lunch and a tour of the bunker originally designed as an emergency command center during the cold war.

Day Two

We visit Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, recognized as one of America's most innovative Civil War history parks in the country. In the afternoon, stand in the home where Ulysses S. Grant received the surrender of Robert E. Lee as we tour Appomattox Court House.

Day Three

Stand on the banks of the James River at Tredegar Iron Works and imagine the hustle and bustle of war at the Confederacy’s main munitions factory. Then, tour the Museum of the Confederacy and Confederate White House in downtown Richmond. In the afternoon, we visit Chimborazo Medical Museum at the site of the Confederacy’s largest army hospital.

Day Four

On our way home, we stop in Lexington to visit Washington and Lee University with tours of Lee Chapel and Stonewall Jackson’s home.

Day One: Tuesday, June 9

7:00 a.m. Depart from Ohio History Center in Columbus
  Arrive in White Sulphur Springs, WV
  Enjoy lunch (included) at the historic Greenbrier Hotel and take a bunker tour
  Depart Greenbrier
  Arrive in Charloettsville, VA
  Take a stroll along the historic downtown mall and enjoy shopping and dinner on your own
  Depart Charlottesville
  Arrive in Richmond and hotel check - in

Day Two: Wednesday, June 10 

  Breakfast at or near the hotel on your own
8:30 a.m. Depart hotel
  Arrive at Pamplin Historical Park
  Take a guided tour of Civil War fortifications and the exhibit "Duty Called Me Here"
  Enjoy a boxed lunch (included)
  Depart Pamplin Park
  Arrive at Appomattox Courthouse
  Ranger-led tour of the Court House an McLean House, site of Lee's surrender to Grant
  Depart Appomattox
  Dinner at the historic Babcock House (included)
  Arrive at hotel in Richmond

Day Three: Thursday, June 11 

  Breakfast at or near the hotel on your own
8:45 a.m. Depart hotel
  Visit the Tredegar Foundry Visitors Center and learn about the making of Civil War munitions
  Arrive at the Museum of the Confederacy and Confederate White House
  Lunch at the Tobacco Company (included)
  Visit the Chimborazo Medical Museum
  Return to hotel for an evening on your own to explore and dinner on your own

Day Four: Friday, June 12

7:00 a.m. Hotel check out and depart
  Breakfast stop (not included)
  Arrive in Lexington, VA
  Take a guided tour including the Lee Chapel an Stonewall Jackson's House
  Lunch buffet at the historic Sheridan Livery Inn (included)
