Winners from district events will compete against 600 entries in the state event April 28 at Ohio Union on the OSU Campus in Columbus. Around fifty participants will be selected to compete at National History Day, June 10-14, University of Maryland.
“National History Day not only teaches students history content, but also important skills they will use in college and future careers,” said Mary Bezbatchenko, state coordinator for National History Day in Ohio at the Ohio Historical Society.
National History Day was originally sponsored by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, in the 1970s. Dr. Cathy Gorn, executive director of NHD, accepted the award. Also present at the White House ceremony as a National History Day Trustee and past National Chairman, was Richard Prasse, current President of the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees.
