Sports celebrates athletic accomplishments and amazing events through text, photographs, and important sports artifacts. The exhibit also provides an examination of the cultural, political and physical barriers that have, through the help of sportsmen and women, been shattered. The Exhibition is composed of 40 artifacts from the National Museum of American History’s collection and presents an opportunity to see objects that illuminate our nation’s sporting past and to understand an athlete’s relationship to sports, the media, and society at large. Appealing to athletes and non-athletes of all ages, Sports is organized into six perspectives – Firsts, Olympians, Game Makers, Barrier Removers, More Than Sports Champions and Superstars.
Sports: Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers was developed by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, Behring Center and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). Audi is the exclusive national sponsor of the exhibition.
