Why We Collect & What We Collect

Collecting is a key function that allows the Ohio Historical Society to tell the story of Ohio. Historical objects are primary sources that directly link us to different times in the past just as archival and library collections can do. They bridge the gap to the past and connect our lives to those who came before us in personal and tangible ways. Through preservation, exhibit, reference, and research, the History Collections department makes these valuable artifacts available to the current generation and to countless generations of Ohioans in the future.
