Daily Life

The Ohio Historical Society collects items that document the daily life of Ohioans throughout history. This collecting area can often have overlap with others, including: glass, decorative arts, clothing, technology, etc. Material culture is the term used for the study of objects used by people in the past, looking beyond the type, design, and time period of an object to its cultural context and usage. Items considered “daily life” include: clothing, crafts, toys, medicines, furniture, popular culture items, tools for mechanical work, wood work, cooking, sewing, etc.
