Horse-drawn sleigh rides rekindle memories of days gone by
(FREMONT, Ohio) — Create a Christmas memory for your entire family by coming to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center for Sleigh Rides through Spiegel Grove. Tim Myers of South Creek Clydesdales will be on hand with horses and sleighs for rides that take place 1-4 p.m. Dec. 26-31. Cost is $3 per rider.
Sleigh rides offer the opportunity to experience days of yore, when horses were the main means of transportation. President Hayes and his family often traveled by sleigh, often enjoying leisurely rides through the grounds of their Spiegel Grove estate. Even if there is no snow, attendees still will experience a sleigh ride. Myers has equipped his sleighs with wheels!
Tickets for Sleigh Rides through Spiegel Grove are sold the days of the event in the lobby of the Hayes Museum. Riders are reminded to dress according to outdoor temperatures.
In addition to the sleigh rides, both the Hayes Home and Hayes Museum are open for tours. Hayes Museum tickets are an exceptional value right now. For one low ticket price of $6/adult, $5/senior citizen and $2/children ages 6-12, visitors can tour the Museum as well as THREE special exhibits (Patterns from the Past: Quilts of Northern Ohio; Hayes Train Special (model train display); and Dr. Snowflakes' 'The Little Match Girl' (featuring the cut-paper artistry of Dr. Thomas Clark).
For more information call 419-332-2081 (in Fremont) or 800-998-PRES (out of town). The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society. The Hayes Presidential Center website www.rbhayes.org also has updates concerning events.
