Black Friday sale includes new collectible Hayes ornament
(FREMONT, Ohio) - A new collectible ornament featuring portraits of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife Lucy is included in an upcoming sale at the Hayes Museum Store. On Friday, November 28, shoppers can take advantage of a 10 percent discount on all Museum Store merchandise. Members of the Hayes Presidential Center can combine that savings with their membership discount for a 20 percent savings!
The new ornament is designed like a locket. It contains portraits of Lucy and Rutherford Hayes made to resemble hand-painted miniatures popular in the mid-19th century. The images of the presidential couple are reproductions of oil portraits created during the Hayes administration (1877-1881). Lucy was 46 years old when she posed for artist Eliphat Frazer Andrews. The President was 56 when William Garl Browne captured his likeness. Both original artworks are in the Hayes Hayes.
Chemart, manufacturer of the official White House ornaments, created the 24-carat gold-finished ornament. Each portrait is in full color and surrounded by a frame bearing the couple’s names and birth and death dates. The center area of the ornament bears the image of an eagle and an engraved image of the Hayes Home. The ornament retails for $24.95 (non-sale price) and can be purchased in the Museum Store or on the Hayes Presidential Center’s website www.rbhayes.org.
The new ornament is the third collectible designed as a souvenir for visitors to the Hayes Presidential Center. Other ornaments feature the Hayes Home and the Hayes Museum. All are undated, making them suitable as gifts for any occasion.
In addition to the collectible ornaments, the Hayes Museum Store sale includes holiday merchandise, children’s items, exclusive Spiegel Grove greeting cards, and books. The Store is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. It is not necessary to pay admission to the Hayes Museum in order to shop.
