Ohio Historical Center presents "Memories of Miss Rosa and Her Bus Ride"
Echoes in Time Theatre Recalls Civil Rights Heroine for Audiences
(COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 26, 2009) – The Ohio Historical Center in Columbus will be presenting as its featured Echoes in Time Theatre performance, "Memories of Miss Rosa and Her Bus Ride," Thursday evenings, Nov. 5, 12 and 19.
On Dec. 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Ala, Rosa Parks, weary from a long day at work, refused to obey a bus driver's order that she give up her seat to make room for a white passenger. Although Park's action was not the first of its kind, her act of defiance began the year-long Montgomery Bus Boycott and became an important symbol of the modern Civil Rights Movement.
Parks later went on to collaborate with civil rights leaders, including boycott leader Martin Luther King, Jr., helping move him to national prominence in the Civil Rights Movement. Listen as a friend of Miss Rosa, portrayed by Annette Jefferson of Columbus, Ohio, gives you her perspective on this brave woman.
Each 30-minute solo performance takes place at 7 and 8 p.m. Admission to the Ohio Historical Center is $8/adults, $7/seniors (age 60 and up), $4/youth (ages 6-12) and free for OHS members and children 5 years old and under. Parking is $4 for nonmembers. For more information, visit www.ohiohistory.org or call 614.297.2300 or 800.686.6124.
The Ohio Historical Center is located on I-71 and 17th Avenue. It is one of 58 historic museums and sites operated by the Ohio Historical Society, a nonprofit organization that serves as the state's partner in preserving and interpreting Ohio's history, archaeology and natural history.
