Dine like a President in the home of one

(FREMONT, Ohio) —A menu replicated from a 19th-century White House state dinner.

A dinner served in the 31-room mansion of a United States President.

These are the main ingredients of one of the most extraordinary fund-raising events in the country – Christmas Dinners at Spiegel Grove.

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center hosts this elegant dining adventure 6:30-10:30 p.m. December 4, 5 and 6 in the mansion of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes. Seating still is available for Thursday and Saturday nights.

This memorable evening begins with a horse-drawn carriage ride from your car to the carriage entrance of the Hayes Home. Costumed Civil War reenactors stand at attention waiting to assist you as you alight from the carriage. The tails of the butler’s dinner jacket gently sway as he opens the door and bids you to enter the Presidential residence. A bevy of maids see to every need as you begin your Victorian experience that includes entertainers, carolers, wassail, the six-course feast based on menus served during the Hayes administration, and a variety of entertainment throughout dinner.

If you are searching for a truly unique Christmas gift for someone important in your life, Christmas Dinners at Spiegel Grove is certain to provide a present that will never be forgotten.

Seating for Christmas Dinners at Spiegel Grove is limited to 24 guests per night, ensuring an intimate holiday atmosphere. Cost is $250 per person. Guests are able to deduct $175 of their dinner-ticket price for tax purposes due to the Hayes Presidential Center’s non-profit status. For information or reservations call 419-332-2081 (in Fremont) or 800-998-PRES (out of town).

Proceeds from Christmas Dinners in Spiegel Grove provide funding for the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center’s many programs, resources, and offerings. The Center, which is not federally funded, includes the museum, library, home, tomb and estate of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes.

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located in Spiegel Grove. The main entrance is at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues. The facility is one of 60 sites affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society. The Hayes Presidential Center website www.rbhayes.org also has updates concerning events.
