Children's Author and Storyteller Adrienne Heard to Appear at National Afro-American Museum in Wilberforce
(WILBERFORCE, Ohio) — Adrienne Heard, the author of Aunt Rosie's Grandmother’s Quilt, will read from her popular book at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, Saturday, November 1st at 11:00 a.m.
Heard, a noted author and storyteller, will regale the young as well as the young at heart with her compelling Underground Railroad quilt adventure. Her pulse-pounding narrative emphasizes the overarching theme of quilts made by African Americans, bridging the focus of the Afro-American Museum's popular exhibition, Quilting African American Women’s History: Our Challenges, Creativity, and Champions, presently on view in the museum's Rotating Gallery.
The exhibition-the largest of its kind-boasts more than 100 contemporary quilts, created by 53 women and four men. Collectively, these quilts combine to share the story of African American women, their profound contributions to American society, and their crucial role in the survival of their people from enslavement to the present.
