Ohio Historical Society To Conduct Fort Laurens Public Meeting Nov. 5
(BOLIVAR, Ohio) — The Ohio Historical Society (OHS) will conduct a public meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 5 to solicit input concerning the future management by the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau of Fort Laurens State Memorial, 11067 Fort Laurens Rd., Bolivar. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. in the museum.
Representatives from the historical society and the convention and visitors bureau will be on hand to discuss the future management of the site and answer questions. Fort Laurens, a frontier outpost during the Revolutionary War, is where a garrison of fewer than 200 Americans withstood a siege of British and Indian forces in 1779. It is one of 58 sites operated by the Ohio Historical Society, a nonprofit organization that serves as the state’s partner in preserving and interpreting Ohio’s history, archaeology and natural history. Fort Laurens is located at the south edge of Bolivar, in Tuscarawas County, on County Road 102 about 1/2 mile south of State Route 212. Take Exit 93 off I-77.
