Partnership brings Mormon Library resources to Hayes Library
(FREMONT, Ohio) — The Research Library at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center announces a partnership with the Genealogy Society of Utah that brings the wealth of resources at the Mormon Church’s Family History Library to Fremont. The agreement enables patrons of the Hayes Library to order microfilm of any genealogical resource held at the Utah facility, eliminating the need to travel to the Salt Lake City to conduct research.
Patrons pay a fee of $6 per roll of microfilm to have the information available for 30 days at the Hayes Library. For an additional $5.50, the loan period can be extended by 60 days. Patrons also can opt to pay $17 for an extended loan, enabling the Hayes Library to keep the microfilm indefinitely. Microfilm must be used at the library - it cannot be taken home.
The Family History Library contains more than two million rolls of microfilmed records, 400,000 microfiche cards, and 300,000 books – much of which is available through this loan program. This immense collection of genealogical material covers most of the world, allowing researchers to search original records from countries as far as the Netherlands, Hungary, Chile, and China. The Family History Library’s United States holdings include records from thousands of county courthouses, state and regional archives, plus all U.S. Census records from 1790-1920.
For more information on this new service offered by the Hayes Research Library, contact Head Librarian Becky Hill at 419-332-2081 or bhill@rbhayes.org. Information also is available on the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center website www.rbhayes.org.
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues, Fremont, Ohio. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society.
