Ohio Village Hosts Old-Fashioned Halloween Experience Oct. 18 and 25
Ghost Stories, Fortune Tellers and Creepy Characters, Oh My!
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Along with the beautiful colors, this fall season brings Halloween fun to families as All Hallow's Eve returns to the Ohio Village on Oct. 18 and 25. One of the Ohio Historical Society’s largest events, All Hallows Eve features games, fortune telling, crafts and more. There is sure to be something for everyone.
The event, sponsored by the Ohio Historical Society, places visitors in a Halloween straight from the 19th century. Visitors can mingle with lost souls and creepy characters, such as the eccentric Krazy Kate, the Ohio Village grave digger and more. This year visitors are fortunate, with more than 10 different ways to get your fortune told, the newest being phrenology - reading fortunes by examining the bumps on heads! Some of the activities include Epitaph Writing, a Museum of Oddities and ghost stories. Favorite activities and entertainment, such as the telling of the history of the Jack-O-Lantern and the Mystery Dancer return to liven up the night
Speaking of old favorites, the widow returns during the "Widows Vigil" as her 14th husband has tragically and mysteriously died. Visitors can join the funeral procession as it makes its way to the recently departed’s final resting place.
The event will end with the yearly retelling of Washington Irving’s spooky classic "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Will the Headless Horseman make an appearance looking for Ichabod Crane, the school teacher from the story? Only time will tell!
The event is so popular it has been going on for more than 20 years, first being held in 1985 to inform the public of the history behind Halloween. The bewitching holiday's roots are buried in the folk traditions, customs and beliefs of Irish, English and Scottish immigrants and remain very important in American culture today.
Ohio Village is a recreated town of the 19th century and is located next to the Ohio Historical Center at I-71 and East 17th Ave. in Columbus. The event is from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The admission is $12 per adult and $9 per child, and $4 for parking. People with an Ohio Historical Society membership get $2 discounts and parking is free.
