History Comes Alive with Echoes in Time Theatre
Ohio Historical Center Theatre's 2008-2009 Season Begins Oct. 2
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Echoes in Time Theatre at the Ohio Historical Society starts its 2008-2009 season by presenting "If Elected!" October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at the Ohio Historical Center. While people hold their breath waiting to see who will become the next president, come listen to John Adams, second president of the United States, debate Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for president.
Acting team Robin and Richard Schuricht of Buckeye Lake perform as Victoria and John, an unlikely duo. Come and watch these two heated 19th-century political figures kick off the season by debating 20th-century issues.
The Ohio Historical Society has nine solo and duet performances lined up for this season covering a wide range of characters and topics in our nation’s and state’s history ensuring there is something for everyone. Performances this year include:
- "Home is Where the Heart is: Letters from the Front"-Nov. 6, 13 and 20, 2008
During the holidays, nothing is more poignant than home and family. Listen in as our World War II soldier and his wife exchange letters carrying messages of hope, fear, love and wishes across the Atlantic during the holidays.
- "'Twas the Night Before Christmas: An Evening with Clement Clarke Moore" -Dec. 4, 11, and 18, 2008
Clement Clarke Moore, a 19th-century poet from New York, talks about his life, family, writing, and the poem for which he is so well known.
- "An Evening with the Post, America’s Most Read Magazine" - Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29, 2009
Find out how The Saturday Evening Post became one of America’s most widely read magazines and launched the career of its best-loved illustrator, Norman Rockwell, from one of its editors.
- "Courage in the Skies: The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen"-Feb. 5, 12 and 26, 2009
Hear a young airman from this famous squadron tell the story of pilots who overcame segregation and prejudice to become one of the most highly respected fighter groups of World War II and pave the way for full integration of the U.S. military.
- "Don't' Be Blind, Speak Your Minds!" - March 5, 12, 19, 26, 2009
Learn how far women have come and perhaps how far they have yet to go in achieving equal rights from suffragette Mrs. Abigail White, a member of the Ohio contingent for Women’s Rights.
- "Our Great Loss, The Death of President Lincoln" -April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2009
What took place in the last hours of President Lincoln’s life? Listen to the account of Joseph Williams who was there in the last hours of Lincoln’s life.
- "Artemus Ward, Master Showman" -May 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2009
Artemus Ward, the fictional creation of a Cleveland Plain Dealer editor, was a master showman who traveled the United States to entertain audiences. Abraham Lincoln was among those who enjoyed reading about his amusing exploits.
- "For the Ohio Country!" -June 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2009
One pioneer woman tells her story of leaving everything behind to follow her husband to settle in the Ohio country-a land she only heard about from stories.
- "For Cause and Comrades" -July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2009
Listen as Billy Yank tells his story about the thrill, honor and adventure that he thought was in store for him as he went to fight for his country in the Civil War.
Echoes in Time Theatre are 30-minute performances that explore characters from America's past. Show times are at 7 and 8 p.m. Admission to the Ohio Historical Center is $8/adults, $7/senior, $4/child (ages 6-12) and FREE for Ohio Historical Society members and children 5 years old and under.
