"Milton Caniff: Armchair Marco Polo" at Ohio Historical Center Oct. 2
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Love your daily comics? If you haven't already viewed the featured exhibition Spotlight on Milton Caniff at the Ohio Historical Center, you will want to do so soon. With artifacts of his childhood and artist's studio, the exhibit highlights the life of the innovative cartoonist from Hillsboro, Ohio, the man who created the popular comic strips “Terry and the Pirates” and “Steve Canyon.”
In conjunction with the exhibition, Lucy Shelton Caswell, founding curator of The Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library, will be presenting “Milton Caniff: Armchair Marco Polo” Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Arthur C. Johnson Auditorium at the Ohio Historical Center. The talk is sponsored by Conestoga, a support organization of the Ohio Historical Society.
The Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library is the largest and most comprehensive academic research facility documenting printed cartoon art in the United States. Caswell teaches courses in the history of newspaper comic strips and the history of American editorial cartoons. The lecture is open to the public. There will be light refreshments available at 1:30 p.m. Admission to the museum is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $4 for children and free for OHS members. Parking is $4 and no charge for Ohio Historical Society members.
