On Sunday, October 4 from 4 to 6 PM, noted author Jinny Powers Berten will sign copies of her recently published fiction book, Littsie and the Underground Railroad, the sequel to the award winning Littsie of Cincinnati. The original paperback book was co-authored by Norah Holt and both are illustrated by Elizabeth W. Schott. The retail price is $9.95. In New York, at the 2007 Independent Publisher Book Awards, Littsie of Cincinnati received a Bronze IPPY Award for Best Great Lakes Regional Children's Fiction. Adults, teachers and students of historical fiction are encouraged to attend this exciting book signing event. Admission is free. Donations are gladly accepted.
According to the author, Littsie O’Donnell, the daughter of Irish immigrants, was orphaned by the cholera epidemic of 1832. She tells the story of growing up in early Cincinnati. While struggling to raise her little sister, she became involved in the Underground Railroad. Her story involves many notable abolitionists and the issue of slavery in mid-western America. Both books can be purchased at the Stowe House gift shop or on-line at www.fountainsquarepublishing.com. The author's email address is Bertenjs@msn.com.
From September 1 through November 30 2009 the Stowe House is open from 10 AM until 2 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Special group tours of the house at other times can be arranged with Barbara Furr. The Stowe House new second floor gallery is available for new artist displays.
