Fort Recovery Archaeological Festival for Families, October 4
(Fort Recovery, Ohio) - Do you dig archaeology? Or Native American culture? Do you enjoy forts and pioneer cabins? Come to Archaeological Festival for Families at Fort Recovery, Ohio, Oct. 4. from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There will be: flintknappers demonstrating how spear points and arrowheads were made from flint; Ball State Archaeologists assisting guests as they dig for artifacts; artifact specialists identifying points brought in by visitors; and atlatl and discoidal demonstrations. The Boy Scouts of Fort Recovery and their leader Don Brewer will provide unique scout demonstrations as well as food, drinks and snacks.
An outstanding feature of the afternoon will be special guest presenters-Brian Vastano, Chris Keller, Tony Deregnaucourt, Bill Pickard, and Ken Sowards-who will be speaking consecutively from noon to 4 p.m. on a variety of topics from "What an Archaeologist Does," to The Glacial Kame Culture, and the archaeologies of Fort Recovery, Pickawilliany and Fort Loramie.
Festival for Families is sponsored by The Blue Jacket Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio and the Fort Recovery State Museum as part of statewide events for Ohio Archaeology Month. Active supporters of the Fort Recovery event also include the Archaeology Department of Ball State University and Pack 99 Boy Scouts.
The only charge for visitors $1.50 for adults and $.50 for children visiting will be for the state museum. Admission to the event and grounds, including the fort, log cabins and monument, is free. For more information, call 419.375.4384 or check the museum Web site at www.fortrecoverymuseum.com.
