FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

'Streetwise' concert brings back the oldies

FREMONT - The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center presents a rocking and rolling outdoor concert when it welcomes Streetwise Quartet to its next Verandah Concert 6:45-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. The Toledo-area performance group specializes in music from the 1950s and 1960s - the so-call "oldies" sound. Admission to the concert is free thanks to sponsorship by Fremont Federal Credit Union.

Streetwise Quartet formed in 1996. The four members have roots in Barbershop singing and employ those talents in their "lost in the fifties and sixties" repertoire. Dave Haase is the tenor and funny man; Wayne "the Crooner" Walther sings lead; Bob Nelson serves as baritone and musical director; and Don Spurlin is bass vocalist and the group's contact person.

Streetwise Quartet performs regularly at fairs, festivals and parties. They frequently are invited to sing the National Anthem at sporting events and have been featured at Music Under the Stars, First Night Toledo, Tours de Noel, First Light Sylvania, and the Applebutter Festival.

Verandah Concert attendees are reminded to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Seating is on the spacious and shady lawn in front of the 31-room home of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes. The verandah of the home becomes the stage for performers. In the event of rain on concert night, the performance will be canceled.

Other concerts in the 2009 Verandah Concert series include August 5 - traditional bluegrass by the Ottawa County Bluegrass Band, and August 19 - the unforgettable tunes of the Big Band Era by the ever popular North Coast Big Band. For information call 419-332-2081 (Fremont) or 800-998-PRES (out of town).

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues, Fremont, Ohio. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society. Check the Hayes Presidential Center website for a complete list of year-round special events.

Thank you for your interest in the Ohio Historical Society!
