Ohio Historical Society Board Names Officers and Trustees

(COLUMBUS, OH July 14, 2008) – The Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees has elected a new slate of officers for the year. In addition, four new trustees have taken seats on the board with each serving a three-year term.

The 2009 fiscal year officers include: Richard T. Prasse of Chagrin Falls, president; David B. Baker of Marietta, vice president; Jon T. Elsasser of Zoar, vice president; Glenda S. Greenwood of Springfield, treasurer; and Richard C. Simpson of Columbus, secretary. New to the board are trustees Randall L. Buchman of Defiance, Cynthia J. Chester of Upper Arlington, Linda B. Litter of Chillicothe and Joseph Nava from Loveland.

"I look forward working with both the new officers and members of the OHS Board of Trustees," said William K. Laidlaw, Jr., executive director and CEO of the Ohio Historical Society. "Their combined leadership skills and professional expertise will be of enormous help to the Ohio Historical Society."

The OHS Board of Trustees has 21 members. Nine are appointed by the governor, nine are elected by the membership and three are selected by the Board.

Richard T. Prasse, president of the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees FY 2009 OHS Officers
Richard T. Prasse is a partner with Hahn Loeser & Parks, LLP in Cleveland, chairing the Firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Area. He also represents public and private schools in student and employee matters.

David B. Baker is the president of Peoples Financial Advisors at Peoples Bank, Marietta, Ohio. He is responsible for all investment insurance activities within Peoples Bancorp. He is also vice president of People Bancorp and President of Peoples Insurance Agency. He has been employed with Bank since 1974.

Jon T. Elsasser is senior vice president and chief information officer for The Timken Company in Canton, Ohio. Joining the company as a systems analyst in 1978, after a series of promotions he was named senior vice president of corporate development in 2000 and then assumed his current position in 2003.

Glenda S. Greenwood, a career banking professional, last served as vice president of Huntington Bank in Springfield, Ohio. From 1979 to 2002, she worked at Security National Bank where she held titles from director of marketing and retail services, vice president of Security Banc Corporation and vice president Marketing/Retail Services.

Richard C. Simpson is the managing partner and chair of the Executive Committee of Bricker & Eckler LLP of Columbus, Ohio. He is a former chair of the firm’s bond department, with a practice in municipal bonds and corporate law. He also provides general corporate representation emphasizing finance.

New OHS Trustees
A professor emeritus of history at Defiance College, Randall L. Buchman also is historian for the city of Defiance and maintains an active public speaking schedule across Ohio. He has written numerous books and articles on history and most recently completed A Sorrowful Journey, a book about the 1832 removal of the Shawnee, Seneca and Ottawa tribes from their Ohio homelands.

For the last 40 years, Cynthia J. Chester has been an active member of the Columbus community taking leadership roles in a variety of civic organizations, including the Columbus Museum of Art and the Ohio Historical Society. She served on the CMA Board of Trustees from 1990-1997. At the Society, she has been a member of the Ohio Historical Foundation's Development and Endowment Committees since 1996.

Linda B. Litter is vice president for Litter Industries in Chillicothe, Ohio, a family-owned business providing bottled propane gas for automobiles and motorcycles as well as wholesale beer distribution. In addition, she is a freelance consultant who provides leadership and lifestyle management training as well as assistance with marketing and creative thinking.

Joseph Nava of Loveland, Ohio, has 25 years of leadership development experience for the federal government. He is the founder of Unity Import Export, LLC, which provides import/export contracts for South America and services including immigration processing assistance and diversity training in working with Hispanics.
