Founded in 1974 in Cleveland at Case Western Reserve University, History Day is a highly acclaimed yearlong program that makes history come alive by demonstrating that students learn history best when they actively engage in a topic. The program went national in 1980.

National History Day students develop, research and present projects in junior and senior divisions in categories of exhibits, documentaries, dramatic performances and historical papers. Last year, more than 7,000 Ohio students participated in the program. Since 1995, the Ohio Historical Society has coordinated National History Day in Ohio, with support from Honda of America Mfg., Inc., and Huntington Bank. The Ohio Historical Society seeks to expand the program's reach by working with teachers and students through workshops, support programs and online resources.

The Ohio Historical Society is a private, nonprofit organization that serves as the state’s partner in preserving and interpreting Ohio’s history, archaeology and natural history. For more information about programs and events, including National History Day, visit www.ohiohistory.org.
