Magic and royalty are part of first Verandah Concert of 2009
(FREMONT) – Royalty are on hand to open the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center’s 2009 Verandah Concert season Wednesday, June 10, when members of the Fremont Community Theatre perform excerpts from the musical Cinderella. Admission to this outdoor event is free thanks to sponsorship from Fremont Federal Credit Union. The evening begins with an old-fashioned ice cream social at 6:45 p.m. Cinderella makes her appearance at 7 p.m.
Fremont Community Theatre presented Cinderella as the finale of its 2008-09 season. Now in its 53rd year, Fremont Community Theatre continues to present a full season of live theater productions featuring the talents of amateur area thespians. The organization’s Teen Theatre now is in rehearsals for Beauty and the Beast, set to run July 17-19.
The famed creative team of Rodgers and Hammerstein transformed the beloved fairy tale into a made-for-TV musical production in 1957. Aired live on CBS television, Cinderella starred Julie Andrews. Its overwhelming success led to a stage version of the musical and two later televised adaptations (1965 and 1997). The storyline follows the original fairy tale about a young woman whose cruel stepmother forces her into a life of servitude. Dreams are the girl’s escape from a dismal existence. Thanks to a magical fairy godmother, those dreams become reality.
