Area Students Receive Honors At State History Day Competition
Finalists to Participate in National Event in June
(COLUMBUS) -- Sixteen students from District 1, consisting of Allen, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Lucas, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, Williams, and Wood counties, earned honors at the National History Day in Ohio program April 25 at Columbus State Community College. Middle and high school students receiving honors at the state event included the following:

State finalists are eligible to compete at National History Day, June 14-18, University of Maryland. State alternates will attend the national event if either of the finalists is unable to go.
This year, Ohio is represented by 55 students participating in 32 projects, two in each of the 16 junior and senior categories.
"History Day involves so many people working together - students, teachers, parents, community members who serve as judges and OHS staff and regional partners who coordinate events – and we applaud their efforts," said William K. Laidlaw Jr., executive director of the Ohio Historical Society. "The quality of this year's performances, papers, exhibits and Web sites was exceptional and everyone who participated should be proud of the work they have done."
National History Day in Ohio is co-sponsored by the Ohio Historical Society and funded in part by contributions from the Harry C. Moores Foundation, Columbus Foundation, Honda of America MFG, Midwest Center for Teaching with Primary Sources, and Huntington Bank.
