"Taste of Base Ball" Celebrates Food, Old-Time Base Ball
Ohio Village Muffins’ Home Games Now Free To All

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Ohio Village Muffins will be back in action at the Ohio Village in Columbus on Saturday, June 13 as they play the Cleveland Blues and the Cincinnati Buckeyes. To top it all off, Muffins home games now have free admission for the remainder of the 2009 season to encourage every one to enjoy an inexpensive summer afternoon full of vintage base-ball fun.

The Muffins play 1860s base ball (traditionally two words) based on the original rules of the game as created by the New York Knickerbocker Club in 1845. Players umpires and scorekeepers dress in period attire and play base ball “as it was meant to be played,” according to James R. Tootle, historian and longtime Muffin player. Muffins base ball has been a tradition at the Ohio Village since the team formed in 1981. The Muffins are also the oldest program of its type in the country

Along with the scheduled games, it will also be "Taste of Base Ball" day. Spectators will be able to purchase a variety of different base-ball foods, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, popcorn and peanuts. There will also be the chance to sign up for various eating contests.

Games will be held at noon, 2 and 3:30 pm. Admission to all 2009 games is free (with the exception of the July 4th game being held during the Glorious Fourth event). By bringing in a donation of a canned food for a “A Taste of Base Ball,” which will be taken to a local food pantry, visitors will receive $1 off the regular parking fee of $4. Regular admission applies to the Ohio Historical Center. Please call the Ohio Historical Society to confirm dates and times of games. Seating is limited for Muffins games, so it is recommended to bring a chair.
