Ohio's Rich Musical Heritage Explored At Campus Martius Museum
Folklorist and musician Hank Arbaugh to perform May 18

(Marietta, Ohio, May 9, 2008) - Ohio's history is richly documented in song. Native American chants, songs of the Underground Railroad and Civil War, and tunes carried here by immigrants from Appalachia tell the Buckeye State’s story. To highlight Ohio’s musical traditions, the Campus Martius Museum presents the performance and lecture "Ohio’s History in Song" by folklorist Hank Arbaugh on Sunday, May 18 from 3 – 4:30 p.m. The Campus Martius Museum is located at 601 Second Street, Marietta.

"Ohio’s History in Song" marks Hank Arbaugh’s second appearance at the Campus Martius Museum. He presented the well-attended program "Appalachian Folk Music" in May 2005. Hank has spent forty years as a performer, scholar, and teacher of traditional music. He plays seven instruments and holds an M.A. in English / Folk Studies from the Ohio State University. During “Ohio’s History in Song,” he will weave music and spoken word together to tell the Buckeye State's story. He will also perform on a number of different instruments, including dulcimer, guitar, and mandolin.

The program "Ohio’s History in Song" is free and open to the public. Admission to see the museum is $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, and $4.00 for students.
